Bilbo Baggins- The young fellow

If Bilbo Baggins was in high school I imagine he would be popular considering he is a Took which is said to be the most known Hobbit family in all of middle earth. Bilbo would never be a sporty person but a simple person who would have tea and maybe a tobacco pipe since he is a Hobbit and he has been blowing smoke rings for almost forever. He wouldn't be nerdy but he wouldn't be sporty. He kinda would be more in the middle considering he doesn't really love going on adventures. But, if I had to choose I would choose the nerdy side considering he loves maps and reading maps and drawing maps and deciphering maps, and so on, so fourth.

Second he would probably turn all his homework in because he is like a control freak like when he didn't want to go into the forest and get carried by an eagle. But, when he was in the Battle of the Five armies he did want to go to gather the elves and dwarves together and he did go into the Lonely Mountain and fight the dragon, somewhat. So maybe he would turn in his homework all the time but, some of the time. He would though be a student who would fight when he needed to, but he would back down and let other people fight just because he is scared. He would be a shy kid unless he fought and he would never not be harsh when he did fight like Golleum and at the beginning when he wanted the dwarves to stop talking and throwing plates around. This all tells us that Bilbo would be shy sometimes and scared to do things later in life which he does. Also he would be a control freak with everything he does and questioning everything.

Bilbo in Highschool

I think that Bilbo would be that shy student that moves to the Middle Earth High School, but he has a friend there, which would be Gandalf, that tries to introduce him with his other friends. At first, they don't like Bilbo, but as the year progresses on, Bilbo would get less annoying and more likable and stronger. At the end of the year, Bilbo steals a lot of the money they earned from a bank heist to pay off some cops that were on his trail, and then he goes with them for their protection since his old gang leader, Thorin, would "Ice him" if he saw Bilbo's face again.
He would probably turn his work in on time everyday, being afraid of getting in trouble, also trying to stay on his teacher's good side. He would be shy in the start of the year, not knowing anybody, but would become more popular as the year goes on, due to him becoming less of a wimp. This shows us exactly how he progresses in the book, starting as a weak hobbit that has never fought in his life, to a spider killing burglar.

Bilbo Baggins in High School

If Bilbo Baggins were in high school, I think that he would have been an average kid.  He would get good grades and turn in all of his work on time because he wanted to do the right thing and was afraid of the consequences of stepping out of line.  His teachers would like him because he got everything done.  He wouldn't do anything against the rules because that might be considered adventure.
He might be made fun of at the beginning of the year, but people would leave him and his average friends to themselves after they realized that they wouldn't retaliate.  Bilbo in high school wouldn't try to be popular.  He wouldn't go to extreme measures to be liked by popular people.  Those things might be considered adventure.  He would graduate like all of the other good hobbits, and he would be responsible.  In summary, Bilbo Baggins wouldn't have an intriguing time in high school at all.  He would do exactly what he was told and nothing else, even if it wasn't against the rules.

The Hobbit Discussion

We had a good discussion today. We had questions that led to other questions that led to more. One of the few questions we discussed about was (All the way back) Why were they getting blacked out when they tried to interact with the wood-elves. We had a good guessed that it was because the elves using magic for them to fall asleep, but then why that magic. Why sleep magic. Also, why is it the same magic that the suspiciously black water has. We assumed that the elves didn't want to kill people (due to how well they treat prisoners), but instead just tried to keep away strangers. That's also why we guessed why it was the same magic that kept the water black, but wouldn't that effect the animals and nature around it? We just assumed that it didn't since we spent so much time on one question. Also we discussed why Smaug was gone, but we just read that page where it tells you today.

Discussion (Nic, Michael, Abby, Marissa)

In our discussion we talked about what would happen to Gollum. Nic thought that Gollum would come back in the next book as a cameo. Abby thought that Gollum would come back and hunter for the ring and kill the person who has it and Marissa thought the same thing. Michael thought Gollum will disappear and reappear when the lord of the rings unfolds.
We also discussed what will happens with Bilbo at Smaug. Nic thought that he will die. Abby thought that Smaug would try to kill Bilbo, but the dwarves help him kill Smaug. Marissa thinks that Bilbo will live and kill the Smaug with the dwarves.

Discussion Summary (Roman B., Quentin B., Tate T.)

We think that Thorin and company have been very lucky.  We think this because they survived in ways that they didn't plan and it was luck that it happened.  We think that if they left the secret door open in the lonely mountain, that they would've died.  This is because Smaug can breathe fire and it would've gone through the tunnel.  Our group also thinks that Thorin didn't show the way out of the cave because they were scared to move.  This is because they were scared that Smaug will sense them when they move then kill them.  We also think that Smaug went away so that they can catch them by surprise then kill them.  This is because Smaug has been trying to kill them then he diapered all of a sudden.

A rating of Bilbo Baggins

I  rated Bilbo Baggins in the middle but more towards the weak side because he has been scared to do anything and asks many questions like can we go around the forest or can we not fly away on an eagle. My opinion was changed however because he is is actually towards the stronger side because he has done many things like going face to face with a dragon and killing some orcs. He has greatly contributed with the battle of the five armies and he has helped to form a bond with the dwarves and elves.

All of my lit circle group members but him on the strong side because he has done many adventurous stuff including going in and trying to steal the gold and help fight in the battle of the five armies. All of the lit circle group members had the same opinion except me who had a different opinion.

Bilbo Baggins: Weak Or Strong

For Bilbo Baggins, I put him as strong. Compared to Gandalf, he would be in the upper middle, but since we're comparing him to other characters from other books, him on the stronger side seemed right. In the beginning, he was really weak, but as the story progressed, so did his character. If you compared him in beginning of the book, to the end, you can tell a massive difference. It went from him being a liability and having to be saved, to saving his friends and ended up becoming the leader of his group. I put him on the end of strong because of these things. Also, there was like a latter of Bilbos, so I had to add on.
Everyone in our group said that Bilbo was a strong character, except Spencer. He said that in the Battle of the Five Armies (he is two days ahead,) Bilbo doesn't do much. He then said that Bilbo was doing a lot until something happened, that me and Carson have no idea what. Tyson, who has read this book like a week before our lit reading groups, begged to differ. They argued, and from what I heard, I think Bilbo got hurt and that's why he stopped doing work, but that's my guess.
I think that Bilbo has a little room left to grow stronger, since they still have to defeat Smaug. He, and his companions will have to brave up and eventually end up fighting and defeat Smaug, which I have no idea how, since he's practically invincible and can also can disintegrate anything near him in a large radius.

Rating of Bilbo Baggins (CarsonH)

I ranked my main character, Bilbo Baggins, towards the stronger side of the line chart. I did this because I believe he has grown a lot as a character. He's been (in my opinion) the most important member of Thorin's team. He has saved Thorin and Co. from all sorts of dangers, ranging from giant spiders to assisting in their escape from the Wood Elves. Recently, he has been even more crucial to the team, as he helped the dwarves scale Smaug's mountain and he stole a jar from him.

All of the ratings in our lit circle group were relatively similar. Spenser placed Bilbo on the center of the line rather than on the strong side (although this is partially due to the fact that he's further in the book than I am, but still). The rest of my group placed Bilbo on the stronger side because of the evidence mentioned above.

I think Bilbo will move a little more on the line before the book ends. The dwarves still have to defeat Smaug the dragon and claim the underground kingdom as theirs once again. Bilbo could display more bravery here than ever before, but I don't know if this will actually happen or not. As I said before, Spenser is farther in the book than I am, so maybe Bilbo becomes less helpful in the last four chapters.

Thanks for reading!

Bilbo Baggins Strong or weak?

I rated Bilbo Baggins on the strong side mainly because of what he has been through, he conquered his fear of heights by riding an eagle, he defeated Gollum in a game of riddles or die, he saved his friends and himself from the castle of the elves. I think these things make him strong because it shows how he has progressed as a person since the beginning of the story where he was basically afraid of his own shadow. He also has overcame challenges that many of us "Big People" cannot such as facing his fears head on instead of running away from them.

I did not agree with some of my group members who marked as a weaker character mainly because of how much he has accomplished and what he's been through. I think his actions speak louder than the words he says because he always says how much he wants to go home, however he still perseveres no matter whats being thrown at him.

I think that Bilbo still has some room left for growth which may allow him to progress further up the weak to strong line. I think this because he still acts a little cowardly in the face of danger but he has almost become immune to his fears and I think this will help him reach a higher standpoint in the eyes of all of his readers.

My Advice to Bilbo (Abby B.)

If I had the chance to talk to Bilbo I would ask him why he continues on the journey. Because for starters he has almost been killed multiple times and he keeps talking about his nice, warm home. So, if he is going to continue on the quest he needs to quite whining about it. I mean seriously man up. I understand why he wants to go home ,but if he wants to so bad then leave. What is keeping you from leaving. Because I think this isn't all for gold.

Also, I was wondering about the fact you don't tell the others about the ring. Especially Gandalf. I think it would be a good idea because they might know more about the ring. Also, if someone is in danger they can use the ring to help them. Plus, they might know how to help you control the power or even what other powers the ring holds.

I hope that you think about these questions. Also consider talking to someone about the ring. Even if it is only one person. That is a lot of power for one to hold.

Bilbo Baggins - what I would say (Michael Goetz)

The scenario wouldn't allow that as a safe option with the spiders, orcs, and the ring which contains the soul of the dark lord himself.  However in the case where a normal conversation was allowed I would tell him to throw the ring away no questions.  Gollum used to be a hobbit until the ring turned him into that thing so that would be a goal.  I would also keep the conversation a secret away from the dwarfs because i would've told Bilbo about how Thorin gets gold fever.  I would then give him a lecture on history about the ring so it can be destroyed much sooner to solve a lot of problems.
I would then say that 13 dwarfs and a Hobbit can't do that much against a mountion sized dragon so it would be wise to find out how to hurt one and get a small army.

(Tate Tolen) If I had a chance to talk to Bilbo Baggins

If I had a chance to talk to Bilbo right now at this very moment, I would say that so far he has done well.  Well not at the beginning of the adventure,  at the beginning he was not ready.  He wasn't prepared for something like that.  But since Bilbo got the hang of it (and found the ring) all the dwarfs started to respect him as their burglar.  Though Bilbo is still a little on edge on coming on the adventure with the dwarfs.  So Bilbo just keep going on!
I am saying this to Bilbo because , not to be rude or anything,  at the beginning he was kind of a wimp.   Now Bilbo is getting more and more ready for beating the dragon.  Plus he will maybe ready for the army.  Bilbo you are very smart looking at how you escaped Golumn in the Goblin caves,  but sometimes you don't think things through like when you were elves you were almost caught like a bunch.  So all i'm saying is be more careful.
Bilbo it was a good job finding that door,  and it was a great job when sneaking into the dragons liar.  But you still like I said need to be more careful and then when you burgle it will be like your not even there.  Here is some advice when going against the Smuag don't breath very loud because he can hear things from a mile away. And especially don't were anything smelly because he can smell better then he can hear.

What I would say to Bilbo right now (Nic)

What I would say to Bilbo right now is that he needs to hurry up. In the book he and his "crew" just sat in the cave waiting to see if Smaug would return. But there was no mention of him seeing if he was still in the cave. In other words they just sat in a cave for three days doing nothing. Even though they did leave because they were slowly suffocating they found that Smaug was gone, so they would've been fine if they had left in those three days.
Another thing I want to say to Bilbo is become a better planner, meaning he needs to plan ahead. When Bilbo is talking to Smaug he realizes he can't get all the treasure back to where they came from. He also didn't have a plan to defeat Smaug, he takes it into consideration a few times but  never thinks of anything.
The worst part is, he never wants to do anything, he only does things because the dwarves have to rely on him so he's  the only one ever doing anything.
A good thing I would like to say to him is how accepting he is and lucky. Even though the dwarves rely on him for so much he is always willing to do what they can't. Even though i  the book it says how he seems adventurous I think that he's just hiding behind the safety of his ring. Because before he got the ring the dwarves thought him useless, but once he got it he became more willing to do "bold" things, but brings me to the point, what will happen if he loses the ring, will he still be as adventurous or will he go back to the way he was?

What I'd say to My Main Character(Quentin)

What I say is to Bilbo is that you need to be ready for anything to happen. You need to be ready for Smaug after all you are in the mountain.I know that you have traveled a long way to get to the mountain. What you need to do is take back the throne and so it can be restored to the king under the mountain. I don't know if Smuag knows you're there but if he does you could be in some trouble.

Make sure you are taking care of the other dwarfs or at least trying. It will be a hard fight between you and the dwarfs against Smaug. What you should do is also take some of the gold from the mountain and take it back to your place just for you. They really don't need that much gold, think of it as your helping them out.But if you do try to take some gold make sure no one else sees you taking the gold.If they do see you try to make up an excuse to get away as fast as you can.

The last thing I want to tell you is that after you go home you and the dwarfs might want to hang out again some time in the future.Maybe some day Gandalf will what you to come back to you.He may even ask you to go on an trip. But all of that is in the future.what you need to do right know is stay away from smaug.

I Need to Talk to You Bilbo (Marissa F.)

Bilbo, quit being so quiet. If you have feelings say them. Also, stay positive. Quit thinking all of those negative thoughts. If you keep thinking of them then you probably will die (but let's stay on the positive side). Another thing is, I love that you are very adventurous. Just, please stay that way.

Will you just please tell the others you have the ring. It could help you in the long run. It is annoying how you are keeping it all to yourself. What if you were to turn crazy like Gollum and talk to yourself and the ring. I mean seriously creatures might make fun of you and think you are crazy too.

Most of all, just stay how you are other than being negative and secretive. Be you because you are the best you and nobody can be like you. I hope you can take these words and put them to good use. Trust me you will not die if you you put those positive thoughts in your head.

Advice for Bilbo (Roman B.)

April 25, 2016
Dear Bilbo,
You should take a break and relax.  Just sit down on your arm chair that you have been wishing to sit in your whole adventure.  I know you will probably not listen and go do some other crazy stuff but at least consider taking a break.  Like you said, the Tookish side of you is wearing down.  Just sit down and relax.
Take this break because you have been adventuring for about a year.  It is time for a break.  It is amazing that you did walk that far without training.  I wouldn't be able to walk for even a week.  Also you have been wishing to take a break in your hobbit hole so do it.  Let the Tookish side of you take a little break and have a normal life for a while.
Go ahead and take the break, no one would do different after a wild adventure.  Let yourself heal from your injuries from the beasts that you have fought.  Eat as much as you would like while relaxing to make up for the food you missed out on on your adventure.  But most importantly, get caught up on your rest.  Please listen, you need this break.

Sincerely,
Roman Becerra

Bilbo Baggins: Strong or Weak

I rated Bilbo Baggins towards the stronger side of the line.  I did this because I think that while he may have been weak at the beginning of the book, he has gotten stronger.  That improvement is something that deserves recognition.  He has performed many brave acts that are quite admirable.
Most of our group's ratings were in the general vicinity of each other.  All of us but one had Bilbo on the stronger side of the scale.  One of our group members placed Bilbo on the weaker side of the center of the scale.  They thought that he wasn't very strong.  I disagree with them because Bilbo has proven his new-found strength on numerous occasions.
I think that Bilbo will move farther up the scale because as the book has progressed, so has Bilbo's strength.  He has gotten more and more bold and has done more and more things that he would not have done at the beginning of the book.  In my opinion, Bilbo will rise to the challenge of the Elves and Lake-men advancing on the mountain.  However, it remains to be seen just how well Bilbo Baggins can rise to the occasion.

Charecter Rating- Bilbo Baggins

I rated my character, Bilbo Baggins as strong. I rated Bilbo as strong because he was brave when he faced Smaug and every other time he saved the dwarves from danger(EX: When the spiders were going to eat them and when the elves had captured them for questioning ). My rating was similar to 2 out of the three other people in my group. Hailey however had a different opinion about Bilbo's rating and thought that Bilbo was a weak character. I think that Bilbo's character rating will change as we finish the book. I believe when his rating changes it will change towards the stronger side.

Character rating

Bilbo is not strong. He says weak things, does weak things, and acts over all weak. But, He ends up being pretty brave and strong. He may not say strong things but he doesn't actually run home like he says. I wouldn't say Bilbo is the strongest, nor the weakest so he is in between the two and at this point in the story he is weaker than stronger but we know that is going to change because It is a fairy tale and all fairy tales end happily ever after.
My group members seem to disagree with me. They believe that he is very strong. In fact an the scale he was rated the strongest by one of them. I disagree whole heartily with that statement. He says really weak things such as, "If you ask me we should just run home before we all die." So as for now Bilbo is not a very strong character with words, but that will change soon.

My Rating Of Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End

Okay so I know when I made my first post on Bilbo I was a bit hateful well, that had changed!  Bilbo has quickly become one of my favorite characters of all time.  He went from that normal hobbit to the leader of the adventure!  (Spoiler warning this talks about things in chapters after chapter 8)  From fighting spiders to stealing the cup from the dragon Bilbo is amazing!  He has my interest on high and I am just loving it!  His instincts are on point with keeping them from being found my Smaug, his plan making is impressive with the barrels and getting them away from the spiders and his bravery is amazing with going against Smaug, spiders, Gollum, trolls, goblins, wolves, wood elves and more (I hope) as the story continues.  I made his rating  STRONGEST CHARACTER EVER (besides Percy Jackson but beating Jason Grace).  I am just in love with this character because he is honestly showing size doesn't matter and there is a high chance of seeing me as a hobbit this Halloween.  This book, because of Bilbo, has quickly put itself in my 10 favorite books.  YAY!  (Gotta love that FanArt! go check it out!-Fansy Art!)

Author of the Hobbit (Hailey M.)

The author of the Hobbit is J.R.R. Tolkien. In the past John Ronald Reuel Tolkien wrote the Lord of the rings. The Lord of the rings is a very well-known book series containing about six different books. In many of the six the name Bilbo Baggins is included. This book was published before the LOTR and takes place before. We know this because Bilbo and Frodo are first cousins once removed. He wrote this book most likely to introduce us to middle earth and the creatures that live there. I suspect that Tolkien had the LOTR already thought through when the Hobbit was published. Though this book is not with the LOTR series it most certainly makes the LOTR series easier to read.

An interview with Bilbo Baggins

If I had a chance to talk to Bilbo I would talk to him about how come he is so afraid and why he should go fight to have an epic adventure of how he fights and kills so many monsters. First you need to step up because the dwarves aren't always going to be here for you when you have monsters trying to kill you. Next you need to learn how to fight better with bigger swords so you can kill more monsters.

Also when you are scared you need to concentrate on killing the monsters instead of running away all the time. Next can you please kill the dragon, because stealing the gold is not enough for me.

Hypothetical Interview with Bilbo (CarsonH)

If I could talk to Bilbo Baggins, I would ask him why he decided to go on this journey. In the beginning of the book, it seemed like he wanted a normal life with no drama or drifting from the schedule, but he went on Gandalf's quest anyway. I would want to know what convinced him to go. I would also ask if he currently regrets going on this adventure. He often talks about wanting to be in his "hobbit-hole" back in his town.
Sometimes it seems like he's enjoying himself, but often he wants to go home.

I would ask these things because it seems unclear at times if he'd rather go on this adventure for gold or wish he'd stayed at his hole. I would just want at least a small clarification as to his state of mind so I (and the readers) could understand him a bit better as a character. With time, the book will probably reveal this, but until then, we can't be sure. Thanks for reading this blog post!

What Would I Say

If I could talk to Bilbo right now, I probably would tell him to keep on moving towards the exit of the forest. He seems pretty discouraged that he can't see the end of the forest, but that's because he's in a valley, and that if he wasn't, he would probably be able to see the exit. That would probably motivate him to get him and his group to the exit. Anything else I could say wouldn't be that much help to him so that's it.

An interview with Bilbo baggins

I would ask Bilbo what events in his journey made him change the way he saw the world. I would ask this because I want to know what it is did Bilbo experience that made him so adventurous. Considering that Bilbo would barely leave his house without having a panic attack. How did the adventure change him as a person? Will it continue to change him? Another thing I would ask is how did Gandalf decide on Bilbo for the adventure. Was it just because he had Took blood in him? Or can Gandalf since things in people that even we can't pick up on? I think that Bilbo is a big edition to the group, because he is a hard worker and intelligent, if the group didn't have Bilbo I don't think they would have made it through the mountains!

The Hobbit Disscussion

In our group, the main things we discussed about was one of my first questions, "Why didn't Bilbo tell them about the ring?" He just found a magic ring on the ground that can turn you invisible that belonged to a crazy, ugly creature that was previously a hobbit. Once when he found his group again, I would have been like, "Hey Gandalf? Will this magic ring make my arms fall off?" And now, in the story, he just kinda forgot that it exists. Also, one of our other questions was "Where is Gandalf?" He kinda left them on one of the most dangerous parts of their mission. He probably knew that they're were going to suffer a little, and decided that he'll just skip that part, and also that he would be another mouth to feed and water when they were out of food. That brought up another question. "How would Gandalf meet up with them?" He has to make it through the giant forest, and going around would take much longer. If he went through it, why didn't he do it with the group? Teleportation? If he could, the whole quest would of been much easier. We said Sure. Why not.

J.R.R Tolkein

J.R.R Tolkien is one of the most famous fantasy authors of all time who created a trilogy that rivals Star Wars or Harry Potter in writing and on the big screen.  The Lord of The Rings despite popular belief is not the first book he wrote when on closer inspection he wrote many short stories for the Silmarillion a collection of tales soon to be related to the tlotr trilogy.  "In the hole in the ground lived a hobbit" was the first sentence in the lord of the rings and became more filled in when his family wanted him to finish the book leading to success despite the Silmarillion not being accepted the Lord of the Rings was so popular it became known as a "alternate Bible" poking fun at some at it's fans even some calling it a "cult".  The book was never meant to go this far because it was a throw-away short story at the time describing a Hobbit until his wife and kids convinced him to take it to a publisher and started the dabiu of a huge media and cultural icon.

The author of The Hobbit is J.R.R. Tolkien.  He lived from January 3, 1892 to September 2, 1973.  He has written 43 major books including The Story of Kullervo, The Fall of Arthur, and Roverandom.  I think he wrote this book to make sense of what was going to happen in the Lord of The Rings.  I think that because this book is a prelude to the Lord of The Rings so it introduce the Lord of The Rings.  He also probably just wanted to start a series since this is the first book.  He also probably wanted people to have a good book to read.
Before all of this, Tolkien had moved houses and cities quite a bit.  He was born in Africa then moved back to England but still moved around England.  Tolkien's family generally lived on the upper side of poverty.  That worsened when his mother got diabetes which ended up killing her on November 14, 1904.  After that Tolkien's aunt came and took care of them.  Tolkien started learning new languages and making new ones too.  Tolkien found Edith and they were friends until her dad him not able to see her again.  After that he eventually made it into college.  His childhood wasn't great but it eventually got better for the rest of his life.

Author of The Hobbit (Abby B.)

The author of The Hobbit is J.R.R. Tolkien. He has written books from 1922-2013. In this time period he wrote around 51 books. Most of the books he has written are supernatural and consist of magic, dwarves, elves, hobbit's, and many things beyond our imagination. The hobbit was the beginning of The Lord of the Rings in 1979.

I think he created the hobbit to allow a background or beginning of other stories. Because characters from other books like The Two Towers, Bilbo's Last Song, and The War of Rings are in The Hobbit. This book was not a part of one book. It was a part of many. Allowing ideas for other book to start, end, or continue with this one. He also, made it so that people would read more or his work wondering why this happened or what is going to happen next. This book created a continuous flow of questions that the other books could answer. It was also an escape from the real world, into a world of magic and mystery, letting kids set aside problems and enjoy a world of endless possibility's.

(Tate T.) Who is the Author of the Hobbit?

The Author of The Hobbit is J.R.R. Tolkien.  His full name is John Ronald Rueul Tolkien.  He was born on January 3, 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.  Tolkien has written many books that are based in a place called Morodor.  The first book that he published was called The Silmarillion,  and then the 6th book he published was The Hobbit.  Along with the Hobbit was The Lord of the Rings series which are the books that come after the Hobbit.  In all J.R.R. Tolkien has written 12 books before his death in September 2,  1972.
In my Opinion Tolkien wrote the Hobbit for the beginning of the Lord of the Rings and to tell where the ring came from and the adventure it went on along with the hobbit Bilbo.  The ring that was found by the creature Golumn was then later taken by Bilbo the burglar , By accident.  Yes Bilbo accidentally found a ring and brought it with him.  In the cave were Golumn lives Bilbo has to do riddles with Golumn or he will eat Bilbo.  If Bilbo wins then Golumn has to show him the way out.  In the end Bilbo wins and Bilbo runs of with the ring when Golumn attacks him.  That is how Bilbo came with the possession of the ring and how it moved from The Hobbit to the series The Lord of the Rings.

Why do you Think they wrote these books?
I think that he wrote this book because he wanted to make people happy with the books that he made.He also might of wanted to do it for money.Another reason is because he wanted something to do as for a hobby that turned into a job.He could of done it because he just wanted to become a writer and create books for the world to enjoy. In the books there might be a hidden message or lesson he put in the books for people to understand. He might of wrote his books just because he had a purpose for his books not just for people to enjoy.

J.R.R. Tolkien was born January, 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South, Africa. He studied at Exeter College and taught at Oxford University. He has written The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy. His full name is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. It took 12 years to write The Hobbit and 12 years to write the Lord of the Rings. He might have wrote The Hobbit to mix fairy tale creatures with symbols of his own live that he has. Or maybe he wrote it to entertain his kids. All I can say is thank you J.R.R. Tolkien for writing both The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.

About J.R.R Tolkien(Nic) (>^-^)>

Our author of our book(The Hobbit) is J.R.R Tolkien. He was born in 1892 and died in 1973. In his lifetime he wrote many great books such as the Lord of the rings, but his earliest one was made in 1922 called A Middle English Read and Vocabulary. People debate about why he wrote the lord of the rings, some say he wanted to entertain his children, but some say he wanted to experiment with new ideas and create a new story.

My Advice to Bilbo- Chapter 8 -Amanda N.

My advice to Bilbo would be to heed Beorn's warning and stay on the path while traveling through Mirkwood. I say this because I have a feeling there are dark and dangerous things they had better avoid. Also I would urge him to try and research a way to defeat a dragon because so far they don't really have a solution to that rather large predicament. Another piece of advice is to stay alert and maybe get more protective gear because the toothpick(Sword) you're carrying around, while helpful with goblins, isn't going to be sufficient protection against things a bit bigger like say a dragon(Smaug).

My Message to Bilbo Baggins (Chapter 12)

If I had the chance to speak with Bilbo at this point in the book, I would have plenty to tell him.  I would first tell him that I think that he is very brave.  Next, I would tell him that I have some advice for him and to listen closely.  I would attest to the proposal that he should spy on Smaug to attempt to locate his weakness.  I would say that he needs to take advantage of any opportunity to take out Smaug as soon as it presents itself.
I might suggest that they try to trick Smaug into thinking that they were somewhere far away from the mountain and steal his treasure while he is away.  In my opinion, they should try to avoid to much direct conflict with Smaug.  Despite the fact that there are 14 people in Thorin and Company, Smaug is extremely powerful.  Smaug is capable of causing many casualties, and that is something that should be avoided if at all possible.  Finally, I would tell Bilbo that he needs to continue to be brave and selfless and that I wish him good luck.

"Bilbo..."(Hailey Madison)

Bilbo,
we need to be more positive. You make me want to throw this book off a cliff. I love you by all means but maybe the cup could be a little fuller instead of empty. We are not all going to die, We  should not go home, We should stay and defeat the dragon like we all know your going to do because you are the beastliest little Hobbit in all of middle earth. You can protect yourselves by running away from the dragon but you must come back and complete the mission. Don't run home like a child would. Your friends believe in you and you should too. If at all possible, lose that nasty temper your friends are trying their best to survive and you are being very rude.
                                               With Love,
                                                                                                             Hailey Madison
                                                                                                           a fascinated reader.

STOP! Bilbo you and I need to have a few words!

I am on chapter 10 so go ahead with caution.  THANK YOU!

Dude!  Seriously!  You have changed so much and I love it!  Before you were so boring and unentertaining now you are my favorite character!  How?  I much prefer your Took side than your Baggins side!  It's okay to be adventurous and its so much fun to see how you changed from a normal hobbit to a hobbit with Stinger and the ring.  You are doing very good but I have one thing I need to tell you.
WHY DID YOU GO OFF THE PATH YOU IDIOT!  YOU HAD ONE JOB STAY ON THE PATH AND YOU WENT OFF THE PATH!  YOU IDIOT!  THE SPIDERS WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM IF YOU STAYED ON THE PATH!  YOU WERE ALMOST OUT OF THE FOREST AND THEN YOU WENT OFF THE PATH!  *Takes deep breathes*
Okay, besides that you did very well and I clap for you!  I am excited to see what you do next and remember when people tell you something, LISTEN!

Here is were I got the image!-SPOILERS!
